We come from an Alaskan fishing family that values sustainability, stewardship and supporting our local community; which is why we are so thrilled to be sourcing wild salmon from Cook Inlet fishermen and partnering with Kenai Red Fish Company to land and custom label sockeye for our frozen Wild Fish Box shipments!
As business owners and mothers of young children who aren't out fishing and working on the water as much, growing our roots in our hometown, Homer, and on the Kenai Peninsula has been rewarding and meaningful in this stage of life. We love supporting the local economy that support Salmon Sisters, sourcing fish and supporting livelihoods of fishermen and processing workers in our community. We also love sending fish to our customers that comes from the beautiful wild waters we love; and knowing exactly what boats the fish comes from and the fishermen who caught it. We remind ourselves daily how lucky we are to live and work in a place where wild salmon swim free and are so happy we get to share boxes of this abundance with you!
Kenai-Red Fish Company is a family-owned and operated small seafood processor overlooking the majestic Cook Inlet fishing grounds in Ninilchik, Alaska. The waters of Cook Inlet (Dena'ina homeland) are unique for their pristine quality. The area's remote location, coupled with strict environmental regulations, helps to ensure that the waters remain clean and unpolluted. This not only benefits the salmon populations but also helps to preserve the natural beauty of the area for generations to come. All of these factors make Cook Inlet a truly unique and special place for salmon fishing and one of the most sought-after fishing destinations in the world. Learn more here.
Clint Benson and Allison Jones are the father-daughter duo who founded Kenai-Red Fish Company in 2013, a business based on the values of sustainable fishing practices, supporting small-boat family fishermen, and connecting members directly to the source of their seafood. In an industry dominated by large-scale, industrial seafood producers, Kenai-Red stands out as a beacon of artisanal craftsmanship.
A small fleet of dedicated Cook Inlet fishermen deliver their wild catch to Kenai-Red Fish Company, making these salmon 100% traceable to the source, which is one of the values that we prize most about working with KRFC, along with their attention to creating a high quality product, handled with respect and care.
"At our company, we take a hands-on approach to handling our fish (literally!) Each one is carefully inspected and delivered to our dock tote individually to ensure its quality. To maintain the best possible condition, we limit the number of fish in each tote to approximately 100, which is half of the standard load. This allows us to keep the fish cold with slush ice and prevent bruising and tearing."
The Kenai-Red team takes great care to ensure that fish is offloaded from the fisherman's boat and transported promptly from the dock to the processing area without any delays. "Our processing time is approximately half of the industry standard, enabling us to preserve the freshness and flavor of our fillets. We never use machines in our processing, instead relying on skilled individuals to handle the fish with care."
Down the road in our hometown, Homer, the Salmon Sisters team packs up the fish that Kenai-Red has landed and custom processed and ships it out to customers across the country each week.

Salmon Sisters gives a portion of proceeds to help protect wild salmon habitat in Alaska, currently through the efforts of the Kachemak Heritage Land Trust. We bring our family, team and crew into the field with KHLT on the Kenai Peninsula to learn how to be good stewards of land for salmon and how to help educate visitors passing through our shops about the importance of healthy coastal ecosystems. Supporting Kachemak Heritage Land Trust is a no-brainer; KHLT protects land that is critical for baby salmon to grow up healthy and strong and then those baby salmon venture to the ocean to live out their adult lives. When they return to spawn, many are harvested by fishermen in Cook Inlet, like those we source our wild fish from. The work we do rely on the health of salmon, the namesake and spirit of our company.
We are proud of the impact the Salmon Sisters community is able to make together and look forward to helping steward the land and sea for generations of salmon and people to come. We are so grateful for your ongoing support, which helps us give back to the health of our coastal communities and the wild places we all depend on.
We respectfully acknowledge the land of the Dena’ina and Sugpiaq People, now the jurisdiction of the Ninilchik Village Tribe, on which we live and work in Homer, Alaska.
