Hello Seward! Salmon Sisters Shop Opens today

Hello Seward! Salmon Sisters Shop Opens today

This spring has brought such good things! We've had the opportunity to open two summer shops in Alaska – one in our hometown of Homer, which we welcomed our community into last weekend during the annual Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival, and one in beautiful Seward, which opens today! We are jazzed to kick off the summer season in this beautiful town rich in local art, incredible seafood and boundless adventure, and are so grateful for the support and love we've felt from its community already.

Seward was the first place our dad came to when he drove to Alaska to find a fishing job. He washed dishes, slept behind the restaurant, and walked the docks until he found work on a longliner. We remember coming to Seward to visit the Sealife Center as kids – we loved the touch tank and learning about all the resident sea creatures native to the Pacific Ocean. We even had a sleepover near the sea lions!

We owe our opportunity to open a shop in Seward to Judy, the owner of Zudy's Cafe, who reached out to us early this spring and told us about the space she had been renovating in the old Alaska Railroad Depot. On a trip to Seward for fishing supplies, we stopped to see the space and fell in love with it. Judy and her husband Jan have poured so much of their time and hearts into making it useful and beautiful, and we've had such a great time making it our own. It feels so good to look out the window and see Resurrection Bay glistening so close.

Opening weekend is going to be a special one, with the annual Seward Mermaid Festival and the 20th Anniversary of the Alaska Sealife Center helping us celebrate. The Seward Mermaid Festival was created by local businesses in partnership with the Seward Harbor Opening Weekend, to celebrate rejuvenation and to encourage local entrepreneurship. It's three days of city-wide activities and fun for the whole family. The Alaska SeaLife Center, our new neighbor (!), celebrates 20 years of sharing scientific knowledge to promote understanding and stewardship of Alaska's marine ecosystems. There will be events, live music, and educational opportunities all weekend – so if you're inspired by the ocean and it's creatures like we are, this is the best weekend of your lives!

Since we're new to town, we want to thank Seward's community for the warm welcome and we look forward to meeting you all this weekend and finding ways we can contribute to your incredible community. Our hardworking young women Kat and Amy will be helping you out at the shop this weekend – stop in and say hello!
