Retail Associate - Fish Shop & Flagship

  • Employment dates/stores being open: ~May 8th - September 8th
    • ideally can start by mid-May
  • You must be based in the Homer, Alaska area with a reliable vehicle & housing 
  • Salmon Sisters has two main shops in Homer, Alaska - our Fish Shop at the end of the spit & our Flagship at the base of the spit.
  • This job would include the following daily tasks: 
    • keeping the shops, warehouse, and inventory well organized, clean, & tidy
    • knowing product details and how to operate the POS (point of sale) 
    • receiving and preparing products for sale
    • assisting customers with questions & concerns
    • sharing information and stories about Alaska, the fishing industry, & Homer with customers
  •  Personal characteristics we're looking for:

  • Compensation: $17.00 USD per hour. Normal hours may fluctuate based on the time of season and will vary between 20 - 40 hours per week. Overtime is often available during peak summer weeks, including holidays. Mileage reimbursement for work-related driving. 

Barista - Mug Up

  • Employment dates/stores being open: ~May 8th - September 8th
    • ideally can start the first week of May
  • You must be based in the Homer area with a reliable vehicle & housing. This job will also require a food handlers' certification (completed before the first day of work). We would prefer candidates with barista experience but are willing to train the right candidate.
  • Our Mug Up Coffee Shop is located within our Fish Shop at the end of the Homer spit. 
  • This job would include the following daily tasks: 
    • making dozens of drinks & preparing foods (in a timely matter)
    • keeping the shop, supplies, and inventory well organized & clean 
    • knowing product details and how to operate the POS (point of sale) 
    • receiving and preparing products for sale
    • kindly assisting customers with questions & concerns
    • sharing information and stories about Alaska, the fishing industry, & Homer with customers
  •  Personal characteristics we're looking for:

  • Compensation: $17.00 USD per hour plus tips. Normal hours may fluctuate based on the time of season and will vary between 10 - 40 hours per week. Overtime is often available during peak summer weeks, including holidays. Mileage reimbursement for work-related driving. 

Seafood Processor - Fish Shop's Warehouse

  • Employment dates: mid-June through mid-August (fishing season)
  • You must be based in the Homer area with a reliable vehicle & housing. This job will also require a food handlers' certification (completed before the first day of work). 
  • Our processing facility is located within our Fish Shop's warehouse at the end of the Homer spit. 
  • This job would include the following daily tasks:
    • Retail & Food Service: Preparing fish for sales case, weighing and packaging customer orders for customers, customer experience and supporting transactions in shop, educating customers on Alaska seafood products (sampling, events, outreach, custom sales) 

    • Custom Processing: Tracking customers fish deliveries through delivery - processing and payment / pick up, monitoring logistics / freight needed 
    • Processing Raw Product: Gutting, cleaning, filleting, trimming, washing, and preparing fish or shellfish

    • Sorting & Grading: Sorting by species, size, and quality.

    • Packaging & Freezing: Weighing, labeling, packing into boxes/jars, and loading into freezers.
    • Machine Operation: Tending machinery for vacuum sealing, freezing, smoking and moving product
    • Cleaning & Maintenance: Deep cleaning equipment and work areas to meet safety standards
    • Loading/Unloading: Moving supplies and finished products, packaging
    • Physical Demands: Standing for long hours (6 to 8+), repetitive motions, bending, stooping, lifting up to 50-70 lbs.
